Student Outcome Data

Student Outcome Data

A clearly defined pathway to success is both valuable to our student and important for the faculty and staff of Alpena Community College. The College has clearly stated goals for student learning at three levels: course, program and institutional. We believe our process for assessing the students’ achievement of those goals is effective and demonstrate the achievement of learning.

At a course level, detailed course objectives and their assessment are required pieces of documentation reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Committee. The actual assessment of each course objective is conducted within a class and is the responsibility of the instructor to use that assessment to measure the level of effective learning taking place in that course.  Necessary adjustments in the teaching and learning process is the responsibility of the instructor.

Program level assessment takes place through third party testing. The results of this testing is annually reported to the state through the Core Performance Indicators in the Carl D. Perkins grant. Data can be found online at http://www.michigancc.net/perkins/pci15/ under the Technical Skills Attainment link.

At an institutional level, the College has defined five core competencies. ACC believes that students obtaining an associate’s degree should be exposed to a common core of educational experiences. The Core Competencies are integrated, reinforced and assessed throughout the curriculum. The Core Competencies can be found on page 31 of the College Catalog.

The Student Learning Committee supervises the assessment of the core competencies. Questions for each competency are faculty generated, distributed to the students via the Blackboard Learning Management System and analyzed by the committee. Each fall semester one competency is assessed and each spring semester a different competency is reassessed. The data can be disaggregated by program of study, semesters in college, high school attended and age. For details on the assessment of the core competencies, check out the Process for Assessment of Student Learning.
