Free, professional, and confidential
Through a partnership with Carey M. Schiller, LMSW, and with funding provided by the Strengthening Institutions Program grant, Alpena Community College is pleased to provide mental health counseling services to our students.

Appointments are typically Fridays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We will work with you if this day and time don’t fit your schedule.

Do I need health insurance to take advantage of this service?
No! This service is FREE to any current ACC student.

Will you have walk-in appointments available?

Availability will vary. Please call 989.358.7296 first.

How long are the appointments?

50 minutes.

How often can I see the counselor?

Sessions are limited to 4 per semester, per student.

I’m a dual-enrolled or Early College student. Can I still see the counselor?

Yes! Services are for all current ACC students, including dual-enrolled, Early College, and part-time students.

I’m an Oscoda student. How do I schedule an appointment?

We will work with you! Can’t make it to Alpena? Carey is available for phone and telehealth conferences.

Can she prescribe me medication?

No. If the counselor feels that you need additional help in the form of medication or otherwise, then she will refer you to a provider who can assist you.

Meet Carey M. Schiller, LMSW

Carey SchillerWith a strong background in crisis work and a passion for helping young adults, Carey M. Schiller earned a double major in Psychology and Individual & Family Relations from Western Michigan University and obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin. She has owned and operated Northern Therapeutic Center in Alpena for the past 10 years.

Mom to three, Carey describes herself as an adrenaline junkie who thrives in the outdoors. She is excited to work with students.

Carey’s office is located in the World Center for Concrete Technology, room 110C.
