Bobby Allen & Cindy DeRocher to Lead ACC Basketball Program
April 29, 2021
Alpena Community College has announced that Bobby Allen and Cindy DeRocher will take over as the Head Coaches for the ACC Basketball program. Allen will be moving into the lead role for the Men’s Basketball Team while DeRocher will be taking over as the head of the Women’s Basketball Team. These changes come after the resignation of former Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Jacobs.

ACC Concrete Canoes Race Results
April 26, 2021
Alpena Community College Concrete Tech students took their concrete canoes to the pond in front of
Northern Lights Arena today and proved that concrete can float. The concrete canoes project was a part of the lab portion of the Concrete Tech program’s precast/prestressed concrete class, which is part of the second-year course curriculum. Students divided into two teams; each team made their own canoe.

Mark Jacobs Resigns as Head Coach of ACC Men's Basketball Program

Mark Jacobs, Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball Team and the Cross Country Team, has announced his resignation from the Men’s Basketball program with the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. This decision comes after Jacobs took on a new role for work that will involve a higher level of travel, making it impossible for him to continue coaching basketball given the rigorous schedule involved with the sport. He is hopeful that he will still be able to continue coaching Cross Country as it has a shorter season that would be easier to manage alongside his schedule.

ACC Announces Drive-Through Commencement

Each year Alpena Community College celebrates its graduates through the Commencement ceremony. This year large public gatherings are still not advisable due to COVID-19 concerns, but ACC has developed a new “drive-through” ceremony that will allow graduates to receive their diploma covers in person and celebrate their academic achievements with family and friends.

Alpena Community College Students Named to 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team

Alpena Community College students Tori Gentry and Yuki Nishibashi have both been named to the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. In addition to their awards, both students received scholarships from the ACC Foundation.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.4 Million in CARES Act Recovery Assistance to Expand Manufacturing Skills Programs at Alpena Community College in Michigan
February 26, 2021
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.4 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to Alpena Community College, Alpena, Michigan, to renovate space on campus to create an advanced manufacturing lab and an updated welding shop. This EDA grant, to be matched with $600,000 in local investment, is expected to retain about 275 jobs, and generate $15 million in private investment.

ACC Cross Country Team Earns Sixth Consecutive Academic All-American Honors

The Alpena Community College Cross Country Team has earned Academic All-American honors for the sixth consecutive year. In addition to the Team Academic All-American status, six individual athletes received Individual Academic All-American honors: Connor Bagnell, Rony Demirkol, Musa Kabbah, Yuki Nishibashi, Teddy Peters, and Duncan Ross.

Steven Fosgard Joins ACC as New Vice President of Instruction

Alpena Community College announces the hiring of Steven Fosgard as Vice President of Instruction. Fosgard replaces Deborah Bayer, who is retiring from ACC this month. Fosgard brings a wide variety of experiences to ACC’s VP of Instruction position. Currently, he is Dean of Occupational Programs at Kirtland Community College in Grayling, Michigan. His work in higher education encompasses responsibilities as a faculty member and administrator.

Officer Collegnon Joins ACC as Liaison Officer

Alpena Police Officer Jason Collegnon has joined Alpena Community College as our new safety liaison officer; he takes over for Officer Chet Spencer, who retired from APD earlier this year.

ACC Announces Safety Guidelines for Fall Semester

Alpena Community College begins its Fall Semester courses on August 31, 2020. In preparation for face-to-face instruction as well as the general operation of the College, ACC has adopted safety rules which will help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. ACC’s safety rules apply to all employees, students, and members of the public when on ACC campuses.

Alpena Community College Nursing Program Receives Advanced Patient Simulators

Students in the Alpena Community College Nursing program will soon have access to advanced technology that will allow them to practice performing various procedures and increase their hands-on knowledge. ACC’s Strengthening Institutions Program Grant recently funded the purchase of four advanced patient simulators at a total cost of approximately $270,000.

Alpena Community College Volleyball and Basketball Seasons Moved to Spring Semester

Following the recommendations from the National Junior College Athletic Association Presidential Advisory Council and the NJCAA Board of Regents, the Michigan Community College Athletic Association has announced the move of all sports except cross country to the spring semester in an effort to help contain the spread of COVID-19. This shift will move the ACC Volleyball and Basketball seasons to the spring semester, with only Cross Country taking place in the fall.

25th Annual Alpena Community College Foundation Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships
June 23, 2020

The Alpena Community College Foundation is pleased to announce registration is now open for the 25th Annual Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships golf outing, presented by Besser Company for the fifth consecutive year. The event is a four-person best-ball scramble golfers of all skill levels will enjoy. The scramble takes place at River’s Edge Golf Club on Saturday, August 15th with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from the outing will go to support student scholarships at Alpena Community College.

Alpena Community College to Host 11th Annual Hoops for Hope Pink Games

The Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams at Alpena Community College are supporting breast cancer awareness at a special Hoops for Hope game on Wednesday, February 12th. The 11thAnnual Hoops for Hope is sponsored by Alpena Community College and MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena. Money raised at the event will be donated to the Alpena Cancer Center.
