Alpena Community College plays a vital part in the community of Alpena by hosting numerous events throughout the year as well as facilitating groups who wish to use the campus as a location for an event for the community. Many of these events are offered at little or no cost to the public. We believe that the best communities are generated by helping each other which is why we strive to work with the public.

ACC Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Van Lare Hall Renovation Project

Alpena Community College is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for Van Lare Hall’s Healthy Futures Start Here renovation project at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019. The kick-off event will be located in front of Van Lare Hall and feature remarks by members of the ACC Foundation board, ACC’s Board of Trustees, ACC students and staff, and project participants. Details of the project will be shared and light refreshments will be served.
Consumers Energy Donates Digger Derrick Truck to ACC

Consumers Energy is helping the next generation of electric lineworkers in Michigan by donating a digger derrick truck to Alpena Community College. Consumers Energy is providing the vehicle, a digger derrick truck that had helped serve customers for years, to the college’s lineworker training program. The college provides valuable education to students who go on to work with Consumers Energy and other energy providers, meeting the need for talented individuals to do this work across Michigan.
ACC Student Nurses Association to Host Teddy Bear Picnic

The Student Nurses Association at Alpena Community College will be hosting a Teddy Bear Picnic at Bay View Park in Alpena on Saturday, October 5, from 12-3 p.m. This event gives children an opportunity to learn how to take care of their teddy bear while also learning about basic medical care and general safety.

With one week to go before classes close Alpena Community College is showing strong growth in Fall Semester students and revenue. As of Friday morning, August 30, ACC’s student headcount had increased 5.0% over the same point last year. That equates to an additional 72 students. Fall Semester 2018 headcount was 1,445; Fall Semester 2019 headcount is currently 1,517. Credit hours are up 4.5% (14,922.50 credit hours this year versus 14,280.00 last year).Consumers Energy Foundation Awards Scholarships for Future Lineworkers, Honoring Fallen Employees

The Consumers Energy Foundation is assisting three individuals training to become electric lineworkers with scholarships honoring two fallen company linemen.The scholarship program, first announced in 2015, is in conjunction with Lansing Community College (LCC), Alpena Community College (ACC), the Michigan State Utility Workers Council and Consumers Energy. The 2019 recipients, Matthew Goodenow and Shane Peterson of ACC and Brandon Nickerbocker of LCC, were honored Wednesday at a ceremony at Consumers Energy’s Marshall Training Center. Hunters Harvest for Charity Supports ACC's Student Food Pantry

Jim Wils, Dick Dubey and Mark Boyk of Hunters Harvest for Charity recently presented Alpena Community College Foundation Executive Director Brenda Herman and ACC Communications Technician Jess Ruppert with an $800.00 check. The donation comes from the proceeds of the group’s annual Sportsmen’s Banquet and has been designated to support ACC’s student food pantry.
Alpena Community College Students Place 1st in Lineman Rodeo

ALPENA, MICH. – Alpena Community College Utility Tech students performed well at the Mitchell Technical Institute Annual College Lineman Rodeo on April 5, 2019, in Mitchell, South Dakota. ACC’s Team 1, 45 North, won the Team Overall Champion award as well as three events: Team C1 Framing, Team Written Exam, and Team Obstacle Climb.
Alpena Community College Students Named to 2019 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team

Gene Haas Foundation Donates $10,000 to ACC for Scholarships

ALPENA, MICH. — Alpena Community College recently received a $10,000 grant for scholarships from the Gene Haas Foundation for students who will be enrolling in a college-level machining-based training program including ACC’s Machine Tool Technology program. This is the second time the Gene Haas Foundation has given ACC $10,000 for student scholarships.
