ACC and SVSU Announce New Partnership for Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree in Alpena

Alpena Community College and Saginaw Valley State University will collaborate to expand nursing education opportunities and grow the talent pool of nurses in Northern Michigan through a partnership supported by a grant from the State of Michigan.

ACC Announces New Social Work Bachelor's Degree Partnership with Western Michigan University

Alpena Community College is announcing a new articulation agreement with Western Michigan University to provide a 2+2 agreement in Social Work. Under this agreement, students will complete the first two years of their program at ACC and then finish their degree with WMU.

ACC Instructor to Climb 60 Utility Poles for 60th Birthday Fundraiser

Forget being over the hill! While many of us struggle to climb out of bed in the morning, longtime ACC utility technology instructor and alumnus (’91) Roy Smith is planning to spend his birthday doing something people half his age would have trouble accomplishing. Not content to just celebrate with cake and ice cream, Roy decided to mark this milestone birthday doing what he loves most to help out the students he’s dedicated his life to educating. Roy is not only challenging himself to spend his 60th birthday October 26th climbing 60 utility poles, but he’s also challenging you to donate $60 in his honor to benefit the ACC Utility Technology Program Support Fund, which is held at the ACC Foundation and helps UTT students travel and compete in the annual lineman rodeo.

ACC to Host Grand Reopening Events for Van Lare Hall

Alpena Community College will be hosting a series of events on Friday, October 8th and Saturday, October 9th to celebrate the completion of the renovations to Van Lare Hall. All donors to the project have been invited to private events on Friday evening and Saturday morning depending on their level of support to the campaign. The public is invited to an Open House on Saturday, October 9th from 1 – 2 p.m. to tour the building and learn about the enhancements to the nursing program.

ACC Announces Local Corrections Officer Academy Graduation Ceremony

Alpena Community College will be holding its annual local corrections officer academy graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 29th at 3:00 p.m. in Granum Theatre. The academy is designed to provide all the training necessary for participants to become certified as a local corrections officer.

Bobby Allen & Cindy DeRocher to Lead ACC Basketball Program

Alpena Community College has announced that Bobby Allen and Cindy DeRocher will take over as the Head Coaches for the ACC Basketball program. Allen will be moving into the lead role for the Men’s Basketball Team while DeRocher will be taking over as the head of the Women’s Basketball Team. These changes come after the resignation of former Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Jacobs.

ACC Concrete Canoes Race Results

Alpena Community College Concrete Tech students took their concrete canoes to the pond in front of
Northern Lights Arena today and proved that concrete can float. The concrete canoes project was a part of the lab portion of the Concrete Tech program’s precast/prestressed concrete class, which is part of the second-year course curriculum. Students divided into two teams; each team made their own canoe.

Mark Jacobs Resigns as Head Coach of ACC Men's Basketball Program

Mark Jacobs, Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball Team and the Cross Country Team, has announced his resignation from the Men’s Basketball program with the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. This decision comes after Jacobs took on a new role for work that will involve a higher level of travel, making it impossible for him to continue coaching basketball given the rigorous schedule involved with the sport. He is hopeful that he will still be able to continue coaching Cross Country as it has a shorter season that would be easier to manage alongside his schedule.

ACC Announces Drive-Through Commencement

Each year Alpena Community College celebrates its graduates through the Commencement ceremony. This year large public gatherings are still not advisable due to COVID-19 concerns, but ACC has developed a new “drive-through” ceremony that will allow graduates to receive their diploma covers in person and celebrate their academic achievements with family and friends.

Alpena Community College Students Named to 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team

Alpena Community College students Tori Gentry and Yuki Nishibashi have both been named to the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. In addition to their awards, both students received scholarships from the ACC Foundation.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $2.4 Million in CARES Act Recovery Assistance to Expand Manufacturing Skills Programs at Alpena Community College in Michigan

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.4 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to Alpena Community College, Alpena, Michigan, to renovate space on campus to create an advanced manufacturing lab and an updated welding shop. This EDA grant, to be matched with $600,000 in local investment, is expected to retain about 275 jobs, and generate $15 million in private investment.

ACC Cross Country Team Earns Sixth Consecutive Academic All-American Honors

The Alpena Community College Cross Country Team has earned Academic All-American honors for the sixth consecutive year. In addition to the Team Academic All-American status, six individual athletes received Individual Academic All-American honors: Connor Bagnell, Rony Demirkol, Musa Kabbah, Yuki Nishibashi, Teddy Peters, and Duncan Ross.
