Alpena Community College plays a vital part in the community of Alpena by hosting numerous events throughout the year as well as facilitating groups who wish to use the campus as a location for an event for the community. Many of these events are offered at little or no cost to the public. We believe that the best communities are generated by helping each other which is why we strive to work with the public.

25th Annual Alpena Community College Foundation Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships
June 23, 2020

The Alpena Community College Foundation is pleased to announce registration is now open for the 25th Annual Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships golf outing, presented by Besser Company for the fifth consecutive year. The event is a four-person best-ball scramble golfers of all skill levels will enjoy. The scramble takes place at River’s Edge Golf Club on Saturday, August 15th with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from the outing will go to support student scholarships at Alpena Community College.

Alpena Community College Students Named to 2020 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team

Alpena Community College students Geyer Balog and Todd Graham have both been named to the 2020 Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. In addition to their awards, both students received scholarships from the ACC Foundation.

Alpena Community College Hires Mary Eagan as New Director of Alumni Relations

Alpena Community College is pleased to announce the hiring of ACC graduate Mary Eagan to fill the newly created Director of Alumni Relations position. This position was made possible through the Strengthening Institutions Program Grant that ACC received in October 2019.

Alpena Community College to Host 11th Annual Hoops for Hope Pink Games

February 6, 2020
The Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams at Alpena Community College are supporting breast cancer awareness at a special Hoops for Hope game on Wednesday, February 12th. The 11thAnnual Hoops for Hope is sponsored by Alpena Community College and MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena. Money raised at the event will be donated to the Alpena Cancer Center.

Alpena Community College to Host Skilled Trades Film Showing and Forum
November 14, 2019
Alpena Community College is hosting a free showing of the short film ‘The Skilled Trades-Crisis & Opportunity’ by Jeff Vande Zande, Professor of English at Delta College. Following the film, there will be a roundtable forum where professionals from the skilled trades will share their thoughts and experiences. This showing will take place in Granum Theatre at Alpena Community College from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 21. As the number of people retiring from the skilled trades continues to increase, it is not being adequately replenished with young people pursuing or being educated for these jobs in our economy.

ACC Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Van Lare Hall Renovation Project
October 4, 2019
Alpena Community College is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for Van Lare Hall’s Healthy Futures Start Here renovation project at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019. The kick-off event will be located in front of Van Lare Hall and feature remarks by members of the ACC Foundation board, ACC’s Board of Trustees, ACC students and staff, and project participants. Details of the project will be shared and light refreshments will be served.

Consumers Energy Donates Digger Derrick Truck to ACC
September 25, 2019
Consumers Energy is helping the next generation of electric lineworkers in Michigan by donating a digger derrick truck to Alpena Community College. Consumers Energy is providing the vehicle, a digger derrick truck that had helped serve customers for years, to the college’s lineworker training program. The college provides valuable education to students who go on to work with Consumers Energy and other energy providers, meeting the need for talented individuals to do this work across Michigan.

ACC Student Nurses Association to Host Teddy Bear Picnic
September 16, 2019
The Student Nurses Association at Alpena Community College will be hosting a Teddy Bear Picnic at Bay View Park in Alpena on Saturday, October 5, from 12-3 p.m. This event gives children an opportunity to learn how to take care of their teddy bear while also learning about basic medical care and general safety.

ACC Fall Semester Enrollment Grows
August 30, 2019

With one week to go before classes close Alpena Community College is showing strong growth in Fall Semester students and revenue. As of Friday morning, August 30, ACC’s student headcount had increased 5.0% over the same point last year. That equates to an additional 72 students. Fall Semester 2018 headcount was 1,445; Fall Semester 2019 headcount is currently 1,517. Credit hours are up 4.5% (14,922.50 credit hours this year versus 14,280.00 last year).

Consumers Energy Foundation Awards Scholarships for Future Lineworkers, Honoring Fallen Employees

The Consumers Energy Foundation is assisting three individuals training to become electric lineworkers with scholarships honoring two fallen company linemen. The scholarship program, first announced in 2015, is in conjunction with Lansing Community College (LCC), Alpena Community College (ACC), the Michigan State Utility Workers Council and Consumers Energy. The 2019 recipients, Matthew Goodenow and Shane Peterson of ACC and Brandon Nickerbocker of LCC, were honored Wednesday at a ceremony at Consumers Energy’s Marshall Training Center. All three men are in the process of completing their training to join Consumers Energy full time as lineworkers.

Besser Company Lends Neighborly Support to ACC

As groundbreaking day for Alpena Community College’s Van Lare Hall renovation project draws near, the ACC Foundation is wrapping up the final stages of its Healthy Futures Start Here campaign. ACC’s neighbors to the east, employee-owned Besser Company, is keeping the momentum alive with their recent donation of $50,000.
