Alpena Community College plays a vital part in the community of Alpena by hosting numerous events throughout the year as well as facilitating groups who wish to use the campus as a location for an event for the community. Many of these events are offered at little or no cost to the public. We believe that the best communities are generated by helping each other which is why we strive to work with the public.

Steven Fosgard Joins ACC as New Vice President of Instruction

Alpena Community College announces the hiring of Steven Fosgard as Vice President of Instruction. Fosgard replaces Deborah Bayer, who is retiring from ACC this month. Fosgard brings a wide variety of experiences to ACC’s VP of Instruction position. Currently, he is Dean of Occupational Programs at Kirtland Community College in Grayling, Michigan. His work in higher education encompasses responsibilities as a faculty member and administrator.

ACC Announces Safety Guidelines for Fall Semester

Alpena Community College begins its Fall Semester courses on August 31, 2020. In preparation for face-to-face instruction as well as the general operation of the College, ACC has adopted safety rules which will help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. ACC’s safety rules apply to all employees, students, and members of the public when on ACC campuses.
Alpena Community College Nursing Program Receives Advanced Patient Simulators

Students in the Alpena Community College Nursing program will soon have access to advanced technology that will allow them to practice performing various procedures and increase their hands-on knowledge. ACC’s Strengthening Institutions Program Grant recently funded the purchase of four advanced patient simulators at a total cost of approximately $270,000.
Alpena Community College Volleyball and Basketball Seasons Moved to Spring Semester

Following the recommendations from the National Junior College Athletic Association Presidential Advisory Council and the NJCAA Board of Regents, the Michigan Community College Athletic Association has announced the move of all sports except cross country to the spring semester in an effort to help contain the spread of COVID-19. This shift will move the ACC Volleyball and Basketball seasons to the spring semester, with only Cross Country taking place in the fall.

The Alpena Community College Foundation is pleased to announce registration is now open for the 25th Annual Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships golf outing, presented by Besser Company for the fifth consecutive year. The event is a four-person best-ball scramble golfers of all skill levels will enjoy. The scramble takes place at River’s Edge Golf Club on Saturday, August 15th with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from the outing will go to support student scholarships at Alpena Community College.

The Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams at Alpena Community College are supporting breast cancer awareness at a special Hoops for Hope game on Wednesday, February 12th. The 11thAnnual Hoops for Hope is sponsored by Alpena Community College and MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena. Money raised at the event will be donated to the Alpena Cancer Center.
Alpena Community College to Host Skilled Trades Film Showing and Forum

Alpena Community College is hosting a free showing of the short film ‘The Skilled Trades-Crisis & Opportunity’ by Jeff Vande Zande, Professor of English at Delta College. Following the film, there will be a roundtable forum where professionals from the skilled trades will share their thoughts and experiences. This showing will take place in Granum Theatre at Alpena Community College from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 21. As the number of people retiring from the skilled trades continues to increase, it is not being adequately replenished with young people pursuing or being educated for these jobs in our economy.
ACC Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Van Lare Hall Renovation Project

Alpena Community College is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for Van Lare Hall’s Healthy Futures Start Here renovation project at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019. The kick-off event will be located in front of Van Lare Hall and feature remarks by members of the ACC Foundation board, ACC’s Board of Trustees, ACC students and staff, and project participants. Details of the project will be shared and light refreshments will be served.
Consumers Energy Donates Digger Derrick Truck to ACC

Consumers Energy is helping the next generation of electric lineworkers in Michigan by donating a digger derrick truck to Alpena Community College. Consumers Energy is providing the vehicle, a digger derrick truck that had helped serve customers for years, to the college’s lineworker training program. The college provides valuable education to students who go on to work with Consumers Energy and other energy providers, meeting the need for talented individuals to do this work across Michigan.
ACC Student Nurses Association to Host Teddy Bear Picnic

The Student Nurses Association at Alpena Community College will be hosting a Teddy Bear Picnic at Bay View Park in Alpena on Saturday, October 5, from 12-3 p.m. This event gives children an opportunity to learn how to take care of their teddy bear while also learning about basic medical care and general safety.
