Receive Important Information from ACC via Email and Text

Alpena Community College has signed on with SchoolMessenger, a new service that provides alert notification services for emergency broadcasts, weather delays and cancellations, and course instructor cancellations, to you via SMS text messaging and email.

Notifications:
Course Instructor Cancellations: Text/Email
If your instructor cancels their course(s) you will receive a text message and/or email alert notification from SchoolMessenger.

Weather Delays & Cancellations: Text/Email

f the college is closing early or cancels classes due to inclement weather, you will receive a text message and/or email alert notification from SchoolMessenger.

Emergency Broadcasts: Text/Email/Phone Call
If there is an emergency broadcast, you will receive an alert notification via text message, email, and/or phone call from SchoolMessenger.

Please note: ACC will no longer make personal phone calls to students alerting them to course cancellations. Students are encouraged to opt-in SchoolMessenger and/or check the current class cancellations online in order to receive this information.


Opting In:

ACC will send out both a text and email request to allow users to opt-in or out of the service. To comply with wireless carrier requirements and protect against unsolicited text messages, you will receive an SMS message to the wireless number that the college has on file for you requesting that you opt in to receive important information from the college via SMS text message.

The message you receive will be similar to the following: "Please OPTIN to receive TXT alerts from Alpena Community College. Reply OPTIN to register, Reply STOP to OPTOUT. https://www.schoolmessenger.com/txtTxt Msg & Data Rates May Apply."

So that you can continue to receive important messages from ACC, we encourage you to reply with OPTIN when you receive such a message.

Opt-In Anytime:

You can also opt-in anytime by texting OPTIN to the number 68453; you'll know you were successful if you receive the following message: You are registered to receive approx 3 msg/mo. Text STOP to quit, HELP for help.


Verify Your Contact Information on File:

Please verify that your phone number and email listed in Self-Service are current. Your Phone Type must be listed as "Cell Phone" in order to receive text message updates via SchoolMessenger.

Log in to your Self-Service account and select your User Name in the upper right corner or the User Options in the menu on the left. Select User Profile and scroll down to Phone Numbers. Verify that your cell phone number is correct and the "Phone Type" is listed as Cell Phone. Select the pencil icon to edit the information or add a number by selecting Add New Phone

Opting Out:

To opt-out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, reply with STOP to the opt-in message or visit http://www.schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg/.

Email Messages:

At any time upon receiving an email from Alpena Community College through the SchoolMessenger software you can request to unsubscribe and will no longer receive emails from the college for the current term. The email message you receive will be similar to the following: "Alpena Community College is announcing the launch of a school messenger email and text notification service. To opt-out of receiving these messages you can click unsubscribe."

Additional Information

Please note: ACC does not charge you for this service; however the college does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by your wireless provider for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.

For Parents and Community Members:

SchoolMessenger offers a self sign-up feature for parents and community members who are interested in receiving text and email alerts for campus closures. These individuals will only be notified of campus closures and will not receive notifications for individual section cancellations.
