Alpena Community College’s Board of Trustees and College leadership have developed an exciting $8.7 million plan to repurpose Van Lare Hall. To keep pace with current national healthcare trends, increased numbers of registered nurses will be required.

ACC plans for the nursing program to double in size, serving 160 students per year, a total requiring more lab, classroom, technology and office space. The east end of Van Lare Hall will be renovated and designed specifically to house ACC’s nursing program. This more than quadruples the current space from 1,460 square feet to 5,760 square feet.

The Center for Health Sciences will include a $1 million state-of-the-art simulation learning laboratory and control room to better prepare students for real world experiences when caring for patients in a variety of clinical settings.

Also included is an eight bed basic nursing lab, two debriefing/conference rooms for interactive learning, and an advanced home-style lab for in-home care training. ACC’s nursing faculty will welcome students in nine new centralized offices for one-on-one guidance along with two offices for the director and secretary of the nursing department. These renovations are crucial to ensure that ACC’s nursing program attracts, recruits, and retains the best students and faculty.
