Walk-On Try-Outs
September 16th

The Alpena Community College Men’s Basketball team will hold open tryouts for any currently enrolled students who may be interested in walking on to the men's basketball team.           

All players trying out must have an updated physical on file and follow all COVID-19 Guidelines.     

Try-outs will be held on Wednesday, September 16th from 5:00-7:00 PM in Park Arena. Sign-in will begin at 4:30 PM. Be dressed and ready to go!

Mark Jacobs

Coach Jacobs grew up in Big Rapids and attended Big Rapids High School. During his time there he competed in varsity cross country, varsity football, varsity basketball, and varsity track. He was named All-Conference in football, All-Conference in track, was team captain for basketball and track, and is the school record holder for the 800-meter race in track. After high school, he attended Ferris State University where he played football for one year. He then transferred to Central Michigan University where he received his Bachelor's Degree. Since graduation, he has completed over 30 marathons, two 100k's, and two 100-mile running races. 

Jacobs' goal as a coach is to build a winning culture that the program, College, and community can be proud of. He sets high standards and expectations for his athletes and puts an emphasis on academics. His favorite thing about coaching is watching his athletes grow into responsible adults and form lifetime friendships. Jacobs is the Regional Director of Sales & Business Development for Klever Innovations/Pacific Handy Cutters, and also serves as the head coach for the ACC Cross Country team. He has been married for 31 years to wife Colleen and is the father of Alexandra, Saidee, and Clay. Jacobs' hobbies include running, reading, traveling, and photography.

Andy Marwede has strong roots in the Alpena Area. He graduated from Alpena High School where he excelled on the basketball court. He was named All-State in Basketball, landed on The Alpena News' All-Decade list, was the AHS Men's Athlete of the Year, and served as team captain. After high school, he attended ACC and played basketball under Coach McCourt. During his time at ACC, Marwede made his mark on the basketball court and landed on the ACC Top 15 All-Time Scorers List with a career 885 points. He was named First Team All-Conference and All-Region and served as team captain for the Lumberjacks. After graduating from ACC, Marwede attended and graduated from Western Michigan University. During his time at WMU, he began competing in Disc Golf which he continues to do professionally. He was recently named the 2nd highest rated Disc Golfer in the state of Michigan. 

Marwede's goal as a coach is to create a positive environment through teamwork so that players can reach their true potential. His favorite thing about coaching is watching each player develop as a student-athlete throughout the season. His hobbies include disc golf, basketball, traveling, and eating pizza. Marwede is the son of Janet Freeman and Alan Marwede and has two sisters, Rachael and Jessica, and two brothers, Jake and Adam.
