Drone Certification Prep Course
Alpena Community College, located in beautiful Northeast Michigan, now offers Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drone) Pilot Exam Prep Courses. FAA regulations require all commercial UAS operators to pass an aeronautical knowledge certification exam. This class is open to anyone interested in becoming a UAS Pilot, regardless of industry application. The potential for licensed UAS pilots is vast, providing an effective tool for occupations in fields such as utility line workers, real estate agents, forestry and agricultural professions, and public safety professionals, just to name a few.
The UAS Pilot Prep Course consists of 16 classroom lecture hours, covering content that will be on the FAA UAS Drone Knowledge Exam. Topics will include regulations, National Airspace, weather, loading and performance, and operations. This is not a hands-on drone operations course. However, students will be well-prepared to sit for the FAA exam upon completion. Instructors will provide a 2-hour introduction to DJI Phantom operations in a 2:1 student-teacher ratio, at a scheduled time outside of the lecture. Staff will assist students with setting up appointments at registered FAA test sites.
The cost for this program is $260, due prior to the first day of class. Due to the high demand for this course, the fee is non-refundable. The fee covers:
- 16 hours of classroom instruction
- 2 hours of individual flight instruction with the instructors
- 2 hours of group study session with the instructors (optional)
